Pushkar is a sacred town for the Hindus, situated 11 kms. to the North-West of Ajmer. Pushkar is recognized in the country for its Camel Fair which takes place here each October/November. This huge assembly of camels, cattle, livestock traders, pilgrims, tourists and film-makers is one of the planet's most incredible events. It's an event that should not be missed. Pushkar is an enchanting small town located exactly on the edge of the desert. Pushkar is a very important pilgrimage centre for the Hindus and is thronged by plethora of sadhus and devotees.

Pushkar is a "City of Temples", though not as much old but in number as generally claimed. The Brahma Temple is the most famous temple in the town and is said to be the only dedicated to Lord Brahma in India. A red spire marks the temple, and over the entrance gateway is the Hans (goose), the symbol of Brahma who is said to have personally chosen Pushkar as his place. Other major places to visit in Pushkar are numerous Ghats that run down the lake. Each Ghat has its own miraculous qualities and powers of healing and this city of temples has over 500 temples built over different eras with varied architectural styles. The rose garden of Rajasthan - the essence of the famous Pushkar rose is exported the world over. A dip in the waters of Pushkar and worship at his temple ensure salvation. So thousands flock to Pushkar to observe the ritual on kartik Purnima, or on any of the four days preceding it.
 
  History of Pushkar City:-
 
Myth says that Lord Brahma was on his way to search for a suitable place to perform a 'Yagna' (a fire sacrifice) while contemplating, a lotus fell from his hand on the earth and water sprouted from that place. One of them was Pushkar where Lord Brahma performed "Yagna". Worship of Brahma was considered highly important at the end of the first millennium BC. Every year thousands of devotees throng the lake around the full moon day of Kartik Purnima in October-November to take a holy dip in the Pushkar Lake. Huge and colorful Camel Fair "The Pushkar Fair", is also held during this time. Pushkar fair is well-known for its camel trading and other attractive activities.
 
  LOCATION:-
 
The small and beautiful town of Pushkar is set in a valley just about 11 km off Ajmer in the north Indian state of Rajasthan. Surrounded by hills on three sides and sand dunes on the other, Pushkar forms a fascinating location and a befitting backdrop for the annual religious and cattle fair which is globally famous and attracts thousands of visitors from all parts of the world.
 
  CLIMATE:-
 
Pushkar has an extreme climate. The maximum temperature during the summers can go up to 40-45°C while in the winters it can be below 10°C. There is not much rain during the monsoon. The best season to visit this place is in the winters (October to March).

Pushkar is situated at the centre of the tourist map of Rajasthan and is therefore well connected. Pushkar is easily accessible by road, rail and air.

By Air: - The nearest airport from Pushkar is located in Jaipur which is 131 km away.

By Train: - Ajmer, situated at a distance of 11 km from Pushkar, is the nearest railhead. Ajmer an important destination on its own right, Ajmer is well connected with major places in Rajasthan.

By Road: - Pushkar is home to two bus stands. The Marwar bus stand, in the north of town by the post office, has buses to some long distance places including Delhi, Jodhpur and Bikaner while the Ajmer bus stand is located east of the Pushkar town and offers bus services to Ajmer and Jaipur. Pushkar is well connected to Ajmer by bus.
